Atticus

Every February for the past several years MMPs has held an annual “Love Your Pet” event in support of local animal organizations. After our last successful one I received an email from Kelly, inquiring about a full photography session for her dog, Attics. Trained as a service dog and nearing his 10th birthday, Kelly wanted to celebrate her beloved companion. We eagerly began planning his session.

I was thrilled when Kelly told me she wanted to pose with Atticus. The love between them is so evident.
(umm, and isn’t Kelly stunning?)

This was a favorite image from Atticus’ session. One edit is clean, the other has a painterly effect. Which do you prefer? If you’ve followed me for long you know that I’m a pretty pain Jane as far as editing goes, but every now and then it’s fun to experiment and try out artistic edits. Personally, I love the feel and flow of the artistic edit. I think the edit works especially for this image because of the gentle posing, plus neither subject is looking at the camera, which allows for more intimacy and tenderness.

I spotted this amazing antique chair in a snapshot Kelly sent me, and I asked if she could bring it in. Loved the texture it provided for Atticus’ session. He is quite the regal beagle! 😉

Look at his sweet face! Seriously one of the cutest dogs I’ve ever worked with. Bonus points that Atticus is trained as a therapy dog … he knew a ton of commands!

Kelly is a special education teacher and Atticus goes to school with her, so of course we just had to do a little school setup. He even rocked sporting glasses, although he did appear a little annoyed with us. Haha!
(if you look closely, the dice add up to ten … for Atticus’ birthday)

Kelly, thank you for choosing MMP to document Atticus’ amazing life. It is clear he is loved beyond compare, and that the feeling is mutual. Yours was truly one of the more memorable sessions I’ve had the pleasure of photographing. Much love to you all!
