Should You Hang Family Portraits in Your Living Room? | Richmond Hill Family Photographer

The quick answer is, of course, a resounding YES! A home should always be filled with memories – from milestones to vacations, there are moments you never want to forget or replace. In this day and age, it is even easier to display portraits that not only fit in with your home’s decor but are elevated into amazing pieces of art. Friends, get your pictures off your phone! Below are a few ways to proudly and creatively display family portraits in your living spaces.

Create A Display Shelf
Group family pictures together in different size frames on a shelf or bookcase. You can even dedicate different shelves to different vacations or milestones so that they tell a full, cohesive story.

Build A Gallery Wall
A personal favorite of ours, gallery walls are a beautiful way to display many memories. While some prefer the sleekness of matching frames, others enjoy a mix of mediums and sizes. Try utilizing frames, canvases, and other design elements to create something truly unique for your family. Pinterest is a fantastic resource to look for gallery wall inspiration. Above Furniture or a Fireplace
If any of your furniture is against a wall, consider hanging your portraits above it, above your room’s fireplace, or both! In those instances, sizing really matters. Keep in mind that your family portraits should be printed large enough in order to properly balance the size and scale of big furniture or a fireplace. (Just say NO to 8x10s, lol)

Gone are the days when living spaces were reserved for pictures of rolling landscapes or fields of flowers that you’d buy at big box stores. Your family’s story IS a work of art – show it off!
